Compass North West Families Enjoy Summer Day Out at Chester Zoo

Compass Fostering North West recently brought children, young people, foster families and staff together for a special day out at Chester Zoo.

The event was organised for foster families across our North West region, giving everyone the chance to spend quality time together and create lasting memories.

With around 180 people in attendance, the day was a wonderful opportunity for children and young people to explore, connect and learn alongside other foster families in the Compass community.

A Day Full of Discovery, Laughter and New Experiences

There were plenty of highlights throughout the day, including the bat cave and a boat trip on the Lazy River, but the giraffes proved a firm favourite amongst many of the children.

Liam Dobson, Participation Lead at Compass Fostering, said:

“It was incredibly special to see the children so engaged throughout the day, enthusiastically sharing the facts and figures they had discovered about the animals.

“One of the standout moments was learning that giraffe droppings are roughly the size of a Malteser, a fact that shocked and amused many of the group, including the adults!

Seeing the children’s curiosity, excitement and confidence grow as they shared their knowledge made the day truly memorable.”

Another meaningful moment came when a young person shared that they had never been to a zoo before, making the experience all the more special.

Creating Lasting Memories for Children and Foster Families

As well as exploring the zoo, the day gave foster families, children, young people and staff the opportunity to unwind together in a relaxed setting.

Liam added:

“What made the experience even more special was spending time together at dinner, where children, foster parents and staff sat together, building connections, having conversations and forming new friendships.

“It was wonderful to see relationships develop in a natural way and to witness everyone enjoying the day as one group. It was a truly incredible day that created lasting memories for everyone involved.”

Kath Hamblett, Head of Fostering for the North West, also attended and helped plan the event. She said:

“What a huge success it was. It was wonderful to see so many people laughing, smiling and having fun in the sun. I couldn’t be prouder of my team, our foster families and the children and young people who made this day one to remember.”

At Compass North West, we know how important it is for children, young people and foster families to feel supported, connected and part of a wider community. Days like this help strengthen relationships, create shared experiences and remind us just how powerful positive memories can be.
