Foster Care Fortnight 2020: #thisisfostering

Due to the strange events that Coronavirus has brought, we are wholly aware that plans have been put on hold, families may not be together and finding our new normal has been tough. This is why we believe this campaign will be so important this year, as it will act as a positive reflection of the brilliant communities, families and friends that want to make a difference.
#ThisIsFostering

Foster Care Fortnight™ is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign which was set up in hope to help raise awareness for fostering and to demonstrate the difference foster care makes to thousands of children’s lives. This year it takes place between 11th and 24th May.

This year’s Foster Care Fortnight theme is #ThisIsFostering. We think it will be a perfect opportunity to celebrate the amazing work that foster carers do, as well as highlighting the real need that we have for more fostering families to look after vulnerable children. Foster care is a way of providing looked after children and young people with a caring and nurturing environment, during a period where their own family is unable to look after them.

Highlighting Foster Parent’s Incredible Work

The awareness campaign will be taking place between the 11th and 24th May, we hope that during this time we can draw attention to the real need for more foster carers. In a recent survey by Compass, we found that people thought that around 27,000 children are in foster care. In fact, the actual number is nearer 55,000. And that’s growing every year.

Compass are looking for foster families in the UK to meet this high demand. If you have the emotional warmth, room in your home and the dedication to be a foster carer, we’d love to talk to you.

What Does Fostering Mean to You?

We know the amazing things that our foster carers do every single day, and we want to showcase this through #ThisIsFostering. If you have pictures, videos, poems, blog posts or anything else- we want to hear from you! Let us know what fostering means to you, and what your #ThisIsFostering is. With your entry, please tell us a little bit about yourself, what your fostering is, and how it has changed your life, and maybe others’ lives around you too.

You can email your submissions here, or you can send them to your supervising social worker to pass on. We look forward to hearing about your experiences!
