Foster Care Fortnight 2025 Celebration

The regional event was a celebration to thank Northern carers for the love, care and support they provide to children and young people, and very much captured the power of relationships and the life-changing impact of fostering. Carers were recognised for their continued commitment to fostering, and long service awards were presented during a delicious afternoon tea.

Relationships are at the core of every fostering story. Building strong relationships is the foundation of the fostering community, not just with children but between foster carers, social workers, fostering services and the wider community too. Our carer representatives, Kayleigh and Lisa, have shared that celebration events like afternoon tea are “worthwhile and make you feel appreciated and valued” and help to “build bonds within the service and wider community”.

Compass Fostering North is also proud to celebrate their recent “Good” Ofsted grading (across all areas) in their January 2025 report, and are now focusing on adding to their amazing group of foster carers within the service. Belinda Cashman, Head of Fostering for Compass North, says “We urgently need more foster carers across the North East region. There’s no such thing as a ‘typical’ foster carer. The fostering community is made up of people from all walks of life. Without locally based foster carers, children can end up in foster homes outside of their local communities and away from everything they know – family, friends, schools and clubs.”
