Education Support for You and Your Foster Children
At Compass Fostering, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in education. That’s why our foster children consistently achieve higher than average GCSE results, strong attendance and sustained progression beyond age 16. This success is rooted in the support we provide our foster carers to help them confidently become educational advocates for the young people in their care.
How We Support You
When you join Compass Fostering, you’re never alone in supporting your foster child’s education. Our services include:
Training and learning opportunities
Access a full suite of online and in-person education-related courses through our Compass Learning and Development platform. These sessions will equip you with the tools and confidence required to navigate educational challenges and champion your foster child’s needs.
Specialist advice from our education advisory team
Our dedicated Education Advisory Team is here to support both you and your Supervising Social Worker (SSW) with:
- Regular training on key topics such as school admissions, suspensions and exclusions, Personal Education Plans (PEPs), English EHC plans, Welsh IDPs and post-16 options.
- Personalised advice if a child or young person is experiencing educational challenges.
- Data monitoring to ensure we understand how our children and young people are progressing.
- Attending carer support groups to offer Q&A sessions on the education topic of your choice.
Additional support
- Compass Education Ambassadors – experienced carers offering peer support.
- Experiential Educators –providing creative sessions for children currently without a school place.
- Promoting independence through our Independent Living Skills Programme for young people aged 14 and over.
In-School Support and Advocacy
Your SSW will also attend school meetings with you and liaise directly with the Education Advisory Team when guidance is needed. Compass will be with you every step of the way — ensuring your child’s educational journey is fully supported.
